It is a resident breeder that exists in the wet lowlands to the mid hills dwells in forests, woodlands and large gardens. The bird can be observed in the Kitulgala Forest, The Peak Wilderness Reserve, Bodhinagala Forest, Morapitiya Forest Reserve, Sinharaja Rain Forest, Kanneliya Forest Reserve and the Hiyare Forest Reserve.
